Boats and FacilitiesWe sail at Lake Wauburg, about 20 minutes south of campus. At the lake's North Park, we have a fleet of 13 boats consisting of ten 1999 Vanguard 420's and 2 FJ's sitting on a floating dock. We also have access to the fleet of ten Lasers maintained by the Lake. Practices take place from 3:00 until closing time. Tuesday is geared towards helping newer team members. Thursday practice is for racing and drills. All other practice times will be announced on a weekly basis at the meetings. Important Links for Members Because it is impossible to accommodate everyone's schedules, all sailors are encouraged to go to the lake and practice whenever available. During the week the lake is open at 12 noon. Their web site has a complete schedule. Independent practices are always a possibility can be arranged at meeting. We are a club team and understand that some members may not be as competitive as others, and some people are going to be on the water for the first time. The practices will be structured to include and accommodate everyone's abilities and aspirations.
Team RacingFor our Team Racing team, it is imperative that we get at least 3 boats on the water to do team racing drills, and 6 boats to run some races.
Special PracticesDuring the each semester we will try to hold between 1 and 4 special practices. This may mean that we will be bringing someone in to coach us, or that as a team we will travel to another site to receive instruction. Since we are self-coached, these events should benefit the team greatly. |
