The wind gusted a over 20 knots and proved extremely challenging for the girls, placing 14th overall. To see the complete score breakdown click here

UF Team Sails at Stoney Burke Intersectional San Franciso, CA

University of California October 8-11, 2009

Upon arrival in San Francisco, California, Thursday morning, the sailors went straight to the beach! After the chills of the Pacific, the team drove from Half Moon Bay, up the PCH into San Francisco. The team did a bit of sight seeing and then headed over to Berkeley to meet their housing host. The University of California-Berkeley Sailing Team provided housing and the sailors stayed with Cal Senior, Hannah Nguyen. Hannah took the sailors out for a delicious Thai meal and gave them the rundown on west coast sailing. Friday was a full day of sightseeing which included Berkeley and San Francisco (Golden Gate Park, California Academy of Sciences, Haight Ashbury, Union Square, Golden Gate Bridge). Friday evening, the team ate Italian and rested up for the weekend's races. The breeze Saturday morning started with a 6-9 knot oscillating breeze, picking up quickly and to 17 knots by the end of the day. Sunday's wind started with 10-12 knots, dying as the day went on. After 12 total regatta races, the team placed 14th out of 23 schools. Special thanks to Hannah for a great stay and to the Cal Sailing Team for all of their help. After racing, the ventured into the San Francisco one last time for a garlicky meal at the Stinking Rose. After, the team hopped a red eye back to Florida. A great success for our team's first regatta on the West coast.
