Third Annual Alumni Regatta! PDF Print

The UF Sailing Team would like to invite all UF Alumni, past sailors, and the family of current sailors to the Third Annual Alumni Regatta and Parents Weekend on February 5th, 2011! We have booked the lodge at Lake Wauburg and will be serving a catered lunch.  Later on there will also be dinner and an awards ceremony at the Ironwood Golf Course.

If you do not have a sailing partner or are completely new to the sport we will gladly supply you with a capable UF sailor. Everyone who attends the regatta is welcome and encouraged to sail, but there will be some fun land activities and plenty of comfortable spectator spots for those who are just friends of our sport.

Summary
Saturday, October 29:
Racing began in the Cooper River with a northwest wind around 15 knots and a thick mist, which made finding the marks a bit challenging As the mist lifted the wind shifted to the north northwest, the tide began to ebb, and the wind began gusting in to the mid-twenties. It was a bit frothy & several capsizes, resulted in one broken mast and one broken tiller, but no break downs were filed. W4’s, with offsets and gates, & course 5 (the Cooper River gold cup) were both used. No protests were filed.
